This mural was a community project in partnership with children at a local primary school. In addition to brightening up a dull wall, our aim was to show them how the design process works, to give them ownership and pride in the mural, and to create something which made them smile!
The project began with a slideshow and enthusiastic discussion with year 1 and year 2 children, followed by them drawing up their ideas onto a pre-prepared elevation drawing. Creative Director Julien Lesage then collated many of these into an integrated design which he drew onto the wall. Groups of children then painted the final piece.
This is the final design, composed of several different drawings, with construction grid lines added.
Julien then prepared the wall and chalked in outlines, which are then made permanent with black paint.
Children painted the wall in groups of 4, rotating every 15 minutes.
